The Stack lies within the secluded hamlet of Trelion, overlooking the upper reaches of the magnificent Fal Valley in mid-Cornwall. This 19th century engine house is sure to inspire those with a love for unique architecture and rough-luxe interiors, having been stripped back to its brick bones to reveal a glimpse into its ancient mining heritage and offer a truly extraordinary self-catering escape.
Sat at the end of a sweeping pathway deep within the rural idyll of mid-Cornwall, The Stack epitomises the true spirit of Cornwall. This unique home binds a classically Cornish Grade-II listed exterior together with vogueish interiors in a blissful marriage of contraries. Along with its characterful living areas set over five floors, this stack of luxury (dubbed locally as “The Castle” in the 20th century) also includes a cinema room, hot tub and al fresco kitchen for self-catering under the stars. The Stack is equidistant between the rugged north and serene south coasts of Cornwall, deep within romantic Poldark country.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Stripped walls revealing layers of history and a rustic wooden staircase provide the passage to three floors, each with a unique bedroom. There is a spicy Moroccan flavour to the first floor double bedroom, with its ornate shutter headboard and distressed walls, whilst the second floor bedroom channels a woodcutter vibe, complete with king-size bed and WC alongside. On the third floor is a zip-and-link bedroom packed with vintage star-gazing paraphernalia. The main bathroom is a space of seduction, flaunting a reclaimed roll top bath looking full-frontal into a golden floor-length mirror sourced from a 1920's London parlour.
In over half an acre of gardens, The Stack occupies a secluded location overlooking the wooded upper reaches of the beautiful Fal Valley. Whilst children play merrily on the climbing frame and roly-poly down the sloping lawn, grown-ups will love to get ‘back to nature’ with the array of outdoor delights on offer. The rustic outdoor kitchen is complemented by troughs stuffed with herbs and a wood-fired pizza oven – perfect for a banquet under a twinkling midsummer sky. With its uninterrupted views of the rolling patchwork countryside, the sunken hot tub is in prime position for gazing over the hills and far away.
The abundance of space means families and friends can relax to their heart’s content, with opportunities for everyone to find their own secret sanctuary within the ancient engine house and its grounds. Summers at The Stack will be filled with days at the beach, games in the garden and picnics within the grounds of Cornwall’s finest stately homes nearby. On rainy days, indulge in deep soaks in the tub after crisp country walks, or hunker down in the basement cinema room. With a multi-room Sonos sound system throughout the whole house, along with ready-made soundtracks, all you'll need is a bottle (or two!) of bubbly from the local vineyard to complete your intimate house party.
There is ample parking for four cars, with undercover parking for two cars. The Stack includes a large electric range cooker, hob, microwave, dishwasher and two fridges with freezer compartments, plus a washer and dryer in the laundry outbuilding. The garden is fenced, but children should be supervised at all times.

Style: A dramatic display of architecture stripped to the soul, this old stamp house encompasses exposed beams and coatings of paint peeled so perfectly that they reveal the story beneath the layers.
Designing the Stack was a dream. I tried to keep the interiors in-keeping with the building´s history to enhance what was already there. For me, The Stack and its secluded location made it easy to find inspiration. The views from the deck are phenomenal and really set a dramatic atmosphere.
